I’m a college senior majoring in interior design. I’m also interested in real estate. I was planning my classes for next semester and there is an elective I can take that is a real estate class. As of Dec. 2009, I will have my bachelor’s degree. What else would I need to do in order to become a licensed real estate agent? Do I need to take more, specialized classes? Or would that one elective plus my degree and area of study be sufficient education?
The Virginia Real Estate Board regulates real estate agents in Virginia, and is part of the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. You can find information regarding the requirements for real estate licensure on their website:

how does one go about becoming a real estate agent in WA? Also, what are some of the skills a real estate agent needs?
Here is the info.

You may want to call around or visit a couple of RE brokers websites and look for a "careers" link. They will often have open houses for prospective agents where you can go and learn more about a career in real estate to find out if it is right for you.
One local brokerage even had a personality test that rated you as far as your fit for real estate.
Good luck with you search.

What features do you want or need that will make you select using one real estate web portal over another? Being free does not answer the question because if the site is free, no money can be spent promoting the site to make it popular. So what else do you want? There are many real estate web sites to select from but I presume you have preferences based on the ease of useability or content that most conforms to your needs. Have a look at this site - http://www.findrealty.com.au and please let me know what it is lacking. First thing you will say is content but there is the slight problem, which comes first, the chook or the egg? How does one get content if nobody is advertising their properties? What does this site require that will make it a preferred portal, what do you the user or surfer want to see and what features should we add to improve our site?
Please provide feedback…….

So I posted in the real estate section a general question about the field and someone mentioned that the entire real estate industry is going to tank in the next few years, so unless I have experience (which I don’t, I’m currently an undergraduate in a non-business related major), that I shouldn’t go into this field because banks don’t want to recruit appraisers with <10 years of experience. Is this true? In the most recent CNN Money Magazine 50 Best Jobs in America, Real Estate Appraiser is listed as #8, with approximately 23% job growth in the next 10 years. But the article also mentions “with the housing boom,” but when will the housing boom end? There has been a progressive downturn, but how stable is the industry as a whole relative to others? What are my prospects in this career. I’m still in college but I want to think well ahead so that I don’t go into a field that’s dead end even before I graduate. But the field is encouraging of liberal arts majors like me, so I’m interested!
I would definitely not pursue this as a career.
Real estate appraisers are becoming obsolete. Computer models can do what they do more cheaply and more accurately.
This website will make the profession virtually extinct:

Plus, the real estate boom is over.
Find something else.

What is on the test you take? Is it hard to become a real estate agent? Is it expensive? I am a stay at home mom of 2 and I am wondering if this is something I could actually do or if I might be wasting my time.
I believe it depends on the state you live in. I know for New Jersey, you have to take some courses and also take a test to have a license. Most of the classes range from $300-$350. Some big time real estate companies also have some sort of program.

I am interested in becoming a licensed real estate/foreclosure specialist. However, at this time funds are very limited to take any courses. Any suggestions on how I can become a licensed agent in Michigan on a limited budget?
Look in the local papers under the classified section. Most major Brokerage firms like Coldwell, Keller WIlliams, B & W, Stark, Realty Executives, and so on offer free classes in hopes to recruit new agents. You need to interview carefully with whom to hang your license, it can get quite expensive. Ask the broker on how you can put your license in a holding tank until you can afford the monthly fees associated with being a Realtor. Foreclosures are a beast in it's own nature. I would suggest finding a good local mentor that knows the laws and the process. There are real estate investment clubs all over the country where you could find a mentor and start networking. You can start your basic search with google and narrow it down from there.

I am just working on becoming licensed as a real estate agent in Michigan, I have found 2 brokerages that I really like and am working on narrowing it down to 1, any tips as I begin this career I have full researched it and know the risks and the disadvantages. Any ideas for marketing, or anything else that may be helpful? Would like to hear from some expierenced agents. Thanks!
When deciding on which company to go with after you get your license, choose based on training programs. It's very important that you get as much free training as possible early in your career. After a couple of years move on to a company that has a better split or get your brokers license.

I am 18 now and will be getting my high school diploma from american school of correspondence around May, and i'm interested in becoming a real estate agent and eventually a broker. What is the best way to go about becoming a real estate agent?
You need to follow your states requirements. Most states require 60 hours of class time with an average cost of $300. After you complete the class, you need to pass the national and state tests and then pay the fees for your license. Going into real estate won't pay your bills though…it's commission only and you have a lot of competition.
