What features do you want or need that will make you select using one real estate web portal over another? Being free does not answer the question because if the site is free, no money can be spent promoting the site to make it popular. So what else do you want? There are many real estate web sites to select from but I presume you have preferences based on the ease of useability or content that most conforms to your needs. Have a look at this site - http://www.findrealty.com.au and please let me know what it is lacking. First thing you will say is content but there is the slight problem, which comes first, the chook or the egg? How does one get content if nobody is advertising their properties? What does this site require that will make it a preferred portal, what do you the user or surfer want to see and what features should we add to improve our site?

I would just like to note that I created and maintain this site on my own and is original content.

First impressions: It's a little busy (not bad) but at least I can find all the important things I want right off the bat. The 'too busy' comes in the form of too many icons and too many different fonts — particularly in the individual house displays.

It works OK with browsers other than IE…which is a mistake a lot of people make. Good.

Not every one knows what CMA stands for so some people may gloss over "Free CMA" that may be interested — perhaps you ought to spell that out.

Every house ought to have the lot size specified somewhere or other, some of yours don't (see 3033 Gretchen Way.- Boise - Id)

You have a nice site. While there are several items that affect the search engine ranking of a website, the most important item is textual content. The content must include specific keywords and keyphrases that attract targeted visitors to your site. You should do extensive keyword research to try to determine which terms people enter in the search engines to locate sites like yours.

Your site must also have links pointing to it from other relevant / complimentary webistes. These links will increase the popularity (so to speak) of your site in the eyes of the search engines. Many people will promote the 'old' way of obtaining these links, but things have changed in recent months. The best way to obtain these links is to have good content. Other website owners will want to place a link to your site for the benefit of their visitors.

Make sure you adveritse your site on all your correspondence (letterhead, business cards), as well as obtain listings in the online yellow pages, and real estate specific directories. Submit your site to dmoz.org and Yahoo (it is not necessary to submit to search engines as they will find your site eventually).

It takes time to achieve higher rankings. I typically expect a site to see a significant increase after 6 months.
